Community InvolvementFORA is committed to an open and collaborative process throughout the life of the ESCA Remediation Program. As part of this commitment, FORA established the Community Involvement and Outreach Program. FORA’s vision for community involvement is one that is responsive to the needs and concerns of the community and evolves as the remediation program moves forward. The commitment to community involvement is guided by the following set of principles:
The Community Involvement and Outreach Program ensures transparency in the decision-making process and timely distribution of FORA ESCA Remediation Program information. The Community Involvement and Outreach Program Plan (CIOP) describes FORA's involvement and outreach activities associated with the remediation activities on the ESCA parcels. The CIOP also serves as an addendum to the Army's Community Relations Plan that encompasses remediation activities at the former Fort Ord. There will be many junctures in this project where we will actively seek community input. Additionally, the former Fort Ord's status as a Superfund site requires that we hold public meetings and formal comment periods to ensure that all citizens have an opportunity to review major remedial documents and provide us with feedback. FORA has recently begun to hold Informal Community Workshops to provide information on cleanup activities and engage the community in a dialogue regarding any questions or concerns that may arise. We also plan on participating in almost all of the Army's public cleanup meetings. We hope that by working with the Army in this way stakeholders will have at least one forum in which they will be able to address all of their questions or concerns regarding environmental cleanup issues at the former Fort Ord. We encourage citizens to directly contact FORA relating to the ESCA. |
